Kenyans evacuated from Sudan

The third batch of Kenyans evacuess from war-torn Sudan arrived safely in the country on Thursday.

The evacuees from Sudan were flown into the country through Gondar, Ethiopia.

Tourism CS Peninah Malonza was among government leaders who were present at the airport to receive them.

According to the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora, the latest evaluation comprised of a total of 63 Kenyans.

The first batch of evacuees arrived in the country on Monday this week. The dozens of evacuees disembarked from a Kenya Air Force plane and were received by Defence Secretary Aden Duale. The group comprised of 19 Kenyans and 19 Somalis.

A stream of European, Mideast, African and Asian military aircraft flew into Khartoum all day Sunday and Monday to extract foreign nationals who were moving past combatants at the city’s tense front lines.

39 students at the International University of Africa, Khartoum, are among those who have been evacuated even as the government continues to receive criticism for its slow response.

72-hour ceasefire
Warring factions in Sudan agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire, that started on midnight on Monday to allow foreign nationals to be evacuated. According to the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), the US and Saudi Arabia mediated the truce.
