Moses Kuria Ordered To Stop Linking Karua To Ruto’s ICC Case

A high court judge has issued a temporary restraining order against MP Moses Kuria, prohibiting him from linking former Justice Minister and presidential hopeful Martha Karua, to deputy president William Ruto’s case at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Justice Joseph Sergon issued the injunction yesterday during the hearing of the suit filed by Martha Karua through her lawyers, against the Gatundu South MP.

“She is apprehensive that Mr Kuria will continue to make similar allegations and has proved that she has a prima facie case with high chances of success to warrant granting the temporary restraining orders,” ruled Sergon.

While seeking the injunction, advocate Julius Njoroge had argued that the allegations against their client were detrimental to her political career as they were touching on her reputation.

On September 21, the controversial Moses Kuria said that he together with Martha karua were part of a team that had a hand in fixing Ruto at the ICC by procuring false witnesses to testify against him. Karua denied the allegations and called upon kuria to apologise or else her lawyer, Mr Gitobu Imanyara, would initiate legal action on grounds of defamation. Kuria failed to apologize, prompting the suit.

“Unless Mr Kuria is compelled by the court to cease from maligning my name and further injuring my reputation, I stand to suffer irreparable harm from his reckless and unwarranted attack on my integrity on grounds which he cannot substantiate,” said Karua.

Justice Sergon directed Mr Kuria to file his response within 14 days and scheduled a hearing for October 14.

Kuria also announced during a press conference yesterday that he is scheduled to meet ICC officials on October 9, who will be seeking to “ascertain the accuracy of his statements “regarding ‘fixing’ DP William Ruto in the ICC.

“Let them come. What I will tell them is what I am telling you and what I will keep telling anyone who cares to know the truth about what happened, “he said.
