Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has announced that all students in the country are expected to resume school on January 4, 2021.

The opening will target learners in pp1 and pp2, grades 1,2,3 and Forms 1,2,3, who will be resuming for the second term, which will run from 4th January– 19th March, 2021.

4-year-olds who are set to join primary school in PP1 will join in July, 2021.

Magoha further announced that Grade 4 learners, who resumed school in October this year, will be proceeding to grade 5 in July. Grade 4 and form one students will be expected to stay home while other learners complete their third term.

School Holiday

All learners expect class eight and form four candidates will proceed for a 7 week holiday to allow for the national examinations to take place.

International schools have been directed to re-open from 4th January 2021 for all learners who are still at home.

Face Masks

Magoha maintained that facemasks still remain the key tool in the fight against the spread of Covid-19.

President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the closure of all schools in the country in March this year when the first cases of corona virus were reported in the country.

On October 6, the country opened schools partially, targeting learners from grade 4, class eight and form four candidates.
