Former Nairobi Deputy Governor Igathe Joins Equity Bank

The Kenya Forum can authoritatively confirm that former Nairobi Deputy Governor, Polycarp Igathe, has joined Equity Bank.

Igathe has been appointed as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and will be based at the Bank’s Headquarters in Upperhill.

Although Igathe has not come out publicly to announce his new move, when contacted by the KF to confirm his position he only responded by saying;  “Is there anything that anyone can do in this town without you people snooping around?”  and said that he would get back to our corespondent.

The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) is an executive-level role, with the holder being responsible for the commercial strategy and the development of an organization.

Igathe resigned as Deputy governor to Mike Sonko in January, saying he had failed to earn the governor’s trust.

“Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1 pm on Jan 31, 2018. I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive Admin & Management of the county.” Igathe said in a tweet announcing his exit in Nairobi county government.

Prior to joining Sonko in the run up to the August 2017 General elections, Igathe was the  Managing Director of Vivo Energy Kenya, the distributor and marketer of Shell-branded fuels and lubricants.
