Foreign Workers Required to Register Afresh For Work Permits

The government has on Monday launched a work permit verification and registration process targeting all foreign workers in the country in an effort to get rid of illegal and undocumented workers.

All foreign workers in the country have 60 DAYS to verify/apply for legal status with the immigration department and be issued a card confirming the verification.

According to interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, the official figures listing the number of foreign workers in the country at 34,000 is incorrect.

“But we know that is not true, the real figure is probably over 100,000. This means that there are people doing jobs that Kenyans can do,” said Dr Matiang’i.

“The Government remains committed to ensure that the highest immigration standards are enforced in order to safeguard the interest of Kenyans against foreign workers operating in the country illegally,” he said.

Those who are found to be in the country illegally will be jailed.

The work permit verification exercise will run for two months.

Below are the requirements you need to verify your Kenyan work permit: – work permit, valid Alien ID, Valid official endorsement on passport, official payment receipt and KRA pin.
