Introducing Anarchy Using State Machinery is Dangerous

As many Kenyans, I watched in shock on Monday afternoon as armed pro-government goons descended on former president Uhuru Kenya’s farm in Ruiru in what seemed like a well-orchestrated plan to intimidate leaders from the opposition and discourage the ongoing anti-government protests against the high-cost of living.

What is even more alarming was the boldness with which some government officials had taken to social media to chest-thumb and hint at their plans even after the Azimio leader Raila Odinga issued a statement accusing Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua of having hired goons to cause mayhem and attack opposition leaders during their Monday protests.

In Kibra, a church, and a mosque were torched while the goons who stormed Kenyatta’s Northlands farm made away with livestock and torched a section of the farm as well.

Videos that have since gone viral on social media show groups of men being bundled in a van, and according to witnesses, it’s the same group that caused havoc at Kenyatta’s Northlands farm.

The right to protest and picket is a democratic right enshrined in the constitution of Kenya but law enforcement agencies continue to infringe on this right.

The current political protests led by the opposition aside; we have seen police teargas and clobber individuals who have randomly taken the streets to protest against the high cost of living and even graft in the past.

Comedian Omondi has in the recent past been arrested twice; the first time for protesting outside parliament.

What Kenyans need is a country where the rule of law prevails regardless of who is in power!
