Beware Safaricom Mpesa Scam

Many of you will no doubt have received a text headed ‘TETEMESHA NA SAFARICOM’ informing you that you have won Ksh100,000 and to call back on one of two numbers – 0787 884900 (do not call it!) or 0729 333333. Beware, it is a scam!

Just to test it the Kenya Forum called the first number and spoke to a man who eventually, gave his name as ‘Patrick Mwamdima’ who said he wanted to Mpesa the Ksh100,000. However, Safaricom said that all winners of Ksh.100,000 and above would receive a call from 0729 333333 (not any other number) and not a text message, and winners of Ksh. 10,000 and below would be “Mpesad” the money to their Mpesa accounts directly and be notified.

Repeat – it’s a scam!

Kenya Forum readers – Please pass this warning on!
